The Music+Sound Awards’ Best Re-Record in a Video Game Trailer trophy was clinched this year by LA Music Co, Sencit, with Kris Kovaks’ adaptation of Soundgarden’s ‘Black Hole Sun’ in the Redfall Launch Trailer. It metamorphoses the trailer into a genuinely immersive and interactive experience.

Sencit talk us through it…

The goal was to create a 3 minute launch trailer that’s driven by the music, showing off the open world of Redfall.

We open with a 30 second eerie camera move that slowly pushes through an abandoned convenience store. It begins with an instantly recognizable song playing through the radio, setting a spooky tone. It morphs a well-known cover into something that lends itself to the eerie tone of Redfall while maintaining its recognizability.

We’re moving through epic environments, flipping upside down to see psychic spaces and vampire nests and witnessing tantalizing vampire kills.

The payoff reveals a showdown between the squad and the vampire gods. The music builds to a moment where things are at a peak. Remixed harder with a driving beat.

Ending with something in its original form under the Redfall logo... That brings the trailer to a spooky and eerie close.
