Zoë Ellen Bryant and Pete Saville from Carbon Logic took home the Music+Sound Award for Best Sync in Film / TV Titles this year for their inspired use of Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" in the titles for Amazon Prime’s thriller, Wilderness.
What they had to say about the project…
“It was decided early on that Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" was the PERFECT track for the Wilderness titles. Without giving too much away for those who haven't watched the series, main character Liv is betrayed by her husband, and driven to behaviour most women would never dare indulge in. Like Taylor Swift, Liv takes no prisoners.
The lyrics “look what you made me do” repeatedly remind us of Liv’s dilemma within the Wilderness story. The song’s themes - being made a fool of, getting smarter / harder when she needs to, revenge, survival and victory - couldn’t be more relevant. We also hear “Look What You Made Me Do” in episode two, at a point where Liv’s fire for revenge has been further stoked.
However - perfection of track aside - the idea for its inclusion in Wilderness came at a time when there was no licensable master recording of Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do"... This was due to Taylor having lost control of the master recordings for her first six albums, and blocking any use of them via the publishing side.
Although famously in the process of re-recording said albums, Taylor had not yet reached "Reputation", on which "Look What You Made Me Do" features... So, lengthy discussions with Universal, Republic Recordings, Taylor's management and brother Austin (who manages aspects of her licensing) ensued, to see if it was possible to prioritise a re-record of "Look What You Made Me Do" in time for the Wilderness mix dates. Suffice to say, it all worked out, and we are incredibly grateful for the support and effort from Taylor and her team. Quite a feat.”
